Shaw University will question the metropolis of Raleigh to rezone its historic campus to let structures up to 40-stories tall on the university’s downtown property.

The rezoning is required, college officers reported, to place the historic Black college on solid footing soon after several years of economical fears and backlogged campus servicing.

“We are preventing for our very existence,” Shaw College President Paulette Dillard explained.

“Work with me,” she stated. “Work with our neighborhood simply because Shaw has an option to make a variance. But we will make that distinction by functioning together, being honest and selecting the finest way forward.”
