The revitalization of a former University of Louisville School of Dentistry building is almost complete, bringing more housing options to Downtown Louisville, according to Louisville Business First. Local developer Underhill Associates, led by Jeff Underhill, is finishing up Myers Medical Lofts, the roughly 27,000-square-foot apartment complex at 129 E. Broadway. Mitchell Karcher, project manager and property manager for the complex, said the majority of the renovation should be finished by July, with the first resident moving in July 1.The 44-unit complex has a mix of studios, one bedrooms, one bedroom lofts and two bedrooms through its three stories and basement. Unit footprints range from 653 square feet to 1,282 square feet.Potential residents began touring the property in late April. Myers Medical Lofts will cater to the entire Downtown medical district, and Karcher said it will likely be specifically appealing to UofL medical students.”We conducted quite a few conversations with medical representatives… just trying to talk through what amenities and qualities of the building that might be more attractive to someone working down there,” Karcher said.Some of those things included bike storage, all online payment and maintenance portals, fully secure building with key fob access and included utilities. The complex will also have two courtyards and parking.The group is considering short-term leases at the complex. So far, Myers Medical Lofts as seen a lot of interest from potential residents, some of them include travel nurses. Karcher said they want to provide that option for those who need it, but they are planning the best way to go about it.”There’s a huge demand for travel nurses,” Karcher said. “We want to do it because it is something that the medical district needs, but I think we’re going to really take our time and figure out the best way to offer it.”Underhill Associates has a few projects in the works or finishing up. Swiss Village, located on the edge of the Schnitzelberg neighborhood, held a grand opening June 2. Louisville Business First got a first look in January into the revitalized property, which features 18 studios and two-bedroom units in the former Swiss Hall building and 23 two-bedroom houses.The developer announced in January of 2021 its plans to convert the Starks Building on South Fourth Street next to Fourth Street Live into 264-loft style apartments. At the time, the group said the complex will cater to the local artist community, featuring about 25,000 square feet of artist work space and some co-working space.
